This workshop explores the appearance of the humble apple in storytelling and cultural expressions throughout the world and history.  And of course the meal that we will prepare will feature as many different opportunities to honour the apple as possible!

Apples turn up in a lot of stories, parables, and idioms and they often mean trouble! How many stories can you think of that feature the shrewd powers of an apple in action? The book of Genesis is not the only story that the apple plays a key role in, according to Greek poet Homer, the Trojan War began when a goddess gave the Apple of Discord to the prince of Troy. Snow White is fed a poisoned apple by her wicked stepmother, but apples are sometimes also used to represent health and vitality as in the saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.
